Discover the fascinating story of Mary’s years in captivity in and around Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and South Notts. This talk will reveal a story not found in any history book. So follow Mary on her journey as a captive Queen around Carlisle, Castle Bolton, Tutbury, Wingfield Manor, Chatsworth, Sheffield Castle and Manor Lodge, Buxton and Worksop Manor. Rather than the benign period portrayed by her biographers, the talk conveys intrigue, passion, plots and escape attempts.

The talk is now be supported by the eagerly awaited biography written by David. After years of painstaking research at Sheffield and Chatsworth Archives, this will update and create a detailed account of Mary’s years in confinement in England culminating in the tragedy at Fotheringhay. Find out exactly what did happen to Mary in captivity and the answers to the three relevant questions arising which are why, where, and when.

The Book will be on sale at each talk followed, of course, by a book signing.

This talk includes a special guest appearance of Mary, Queen of Scots played by actress Jane Collier from Discover Buxton.

Buxton Crescent has male, female and accessible toilets.

The Pavilion Gardens have public toilet facilities, just 5 minutes walk away.

Dogs are very welcome in the Pump Room and we always have complimentary dog treats at the Visitor Information desk.

Assistance dogs are allowed in the Buxton Crescent Experience and in the Assembly Rooms.

A variety of hot, cold and alcoholic drinks are usually available during events in the Pump Room.
