Meeting at Cromford Mill Yard at 2.00pm we will walk along Church Walk viewing Sir Richard Arkwright’s Willersley Castle over the River Derwent. On arrival at Masson Mills we will have a guided tour of the working textile museum looking at how the landscape and river were harnessed for Arkwright’s second mills and how the river continues to power the building through hydro power generation to this day. We’ll be guided around the fascinating collection of textiles machinery, the bobbin room and the view over the Derwent into the stunning gorge. We will have time to stop for a warm drink whilst viewing the conference rooms and museum reception area before walking back to Cromford mills for 4.30pm. Total distance approx. 1.2 miles.
