Buxton Pump Room Talk – The Derbyshire Grand Tour with Anna Rhodes

Buxton Pump Room Talk: The Derbyshire Grand Tour

With Anna Rhodes (Buxton Museum and Art Gallery)

Buxton Pump Room Talk: The Derbyshire Grand Tour:An exploration of manuscript journals

Join Anna Rhodes for a romp through eighteenth-century Derbyshire.

We’ll be following in the footsteps of Georgian tourists; marvelling at the picturesque scenes in Dovedale and Matlock Bath, judging the interiors and gardens at Chatsworth and having eerie and death-defying experiences at Peak Cavern.

Along the way, there’ll be geological wonders, unscrupulous tour guides and atrocious roads.

Anna is a curator at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery. Her research focuses on unpublished travel journals and sketchbooks of Derbyshire, exploring eighteenth-century tourism and the picturesque. She has been awarded a curatorial fellowship to the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven and is currently in receipt of an Art Fund award, to purchase eighteenth-century watercolours for the collection at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.
