Join Paula from Buxton U3A for a hands-on workshop exploring the traditional craft of Dorset button making, a beautiful and intricate textile skill with deep roots in Britain’s social and industrial history. In this relaxed, practical session, you’ll learn the techniques needed to create your own Dorset button, guided step by step by Paula’s expert instruction.
Alongside the making, we’ll delve into the local history of button making, uncovering how this craft connected communities, labour, and design. The workshop will also explore the striking death’s head button, a distinctive style rich in symbolism and story. Part of the Made in Buxton project, this workshop celebrates local heritage, skill, and creativity—perfect for beginners, history lovers, and anyone curious about traditional making. No prior experience needed; materials provided.
