Family and Public Learning

Family Visits

What's on for children and families in 2023?

In the school holidays – we open up the beautiful Assembly Rooms – on selected dates – for families and friends to make, create and play together. Each school holiday we have a child friendly trail in the Pump Room. We also recommend a holiday visit to the Crescent Experience, standard admission allows you and your children to explore the Experience at your own pace and enjoy the interactive features!

During term time – on a Friday, once a month, Under Fives and their grown ups can enjoy our Pitter Patter Sessions – exploring and playing with specially created activities in the Crescent Experience. Find out more here

At weekends – our facebook page and Events page highlight planned activities for families on specific weekends. These often link to big events like Heritage Open Days, the Georgian Derbyshire Festival and Fun Palaces.

Is there a cost? At the moment, most of our family activities are free, with a suggested donation. Donations help us to continue offering a fun and inspiring programme of events for everybody.

Family learning and activities

Starting during the Easter holidays 2019, we've hosted a series of drop-in activities in the beautiful Pump Room and Assembly Rooms. Our activities are fun, informal and hands-on with craft, making and building activities for children of all ages. Crafters of all ages are welcome - children under 16 must be accompanied by a well behaved adult, and activities are free, but small donations appreciated. If you have any questions, or would like to enquire about learning with us, please get in touch and we'll be happy to help.

You can contact us with any feedback, suggestions or ideas for new learning sessions you’d like to see in Buxton’s newest heritage attraction.
