the elegant Victorian Pump Room, dedicated to Arnemetia The Goddess of the Grove to take the thermal mineral waters and a trip into the past to find out more about this magnificent space and its history. Rising from 5,000 feet below ground the water is at a constant 28 degrees and has been enjoyed since Roman times. Visitors to the town, who would have 'taken the waters' include Mary Queen of Scots, Georgian aristocracy, eminent Victorians such as Darwin and the Wedgwood family. Then in later years by Vera Brittain and more recently by the many visitors to and performers at the Opera House and Buxton's renowned festivals.
