FROM CATHEDRAL TO CRESCENT

Meet Richard and Janet, two of our wonderful volunteers at the Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust.

December 2020 was pivotal for us. We moved from Wiltshire to Derbyshire, and from Salisbury to Buxton, and our passion for all things Georgian and dressing up was born.
Janet had guided people round Salisbury Cathedral and didn’t really have to look too far for a similarly inspiring building in Buxton. She volunteered for the Crescent Trust and was soon introducing visitors to the Buxton Crescent Experience. She was impressed with the enthusiasm and friendly attitude of staff and volunteers around her and even more impressed when surrounded by elegantly dressed colleagues recreating the atmosphere of the 1780s. I couldn’t let her have all the fun, so I joined up too.

Why do we both volunteer at The Experience? Well, being able to help the team to tell the story of Buxton and its beautiful Crescent to as many visitors us as possible is really great. They are truly such a lovely and fun group of people to work alongside. The visitors, of all ages, to The Crescent Experience are interested, interesting and engaging as we try to make their visit entertaining and informative. Their smiles are all the reward we need.

The support, time skills and enthusiasm of our volunteers is greatly valued by the Trust. We are looking for new volunteers of all ages, skills and backgrounds to get involved and play a part in the exciting new chapter of The Crescent and The Pump Room.
