1 day workshop taking place in the Buxton Crescent Hotel, Buxton on 22 March 2027.
Inspired by the decorative motifs found on Regency slippers, this one-day course offers an introduction to Goldwork and embellishment with the Royal School of Needlework .
At the centre of the design is a deep red heart, surrounded by smaller embroidered details inspired by the beautifully worked decoration of Regency footwear. Over the course of the day, you will explore how stitch, beads and metallic materials can be brought together to create a small but richly detailed piece.
You will learn decorative Chain Stitch before adding beads to highlight different areas of the design and introduce touches of texture and sparkle.
You will also be introduced to Chipping, a traditional Goldwork technique in which tiny pieces of metal purl are cut and applied individually to fill an area. Goldwork is particularly prized for the way its metallic surfaces catch and reflect the light, and Chipping is a wonderful way to see this effect within your own embroidery.
Designed as a taste of what is possible with Goldwork and decorative embroidery, this one-day course is an opportunity to try a selection of techniques while creating your own Regency-inspired heart to take home.
